First Life Installation - Wood End Museum

Part of a sensory sculpture garden for a visually impaired audience.
First life was constructed in two alcoves of the old  conservatory area of the museum.

The installation focused on a variety of textures that could be explored by a partially sighted audience. Carpet and spiky plastic matting  spills out onto the wall from the mosaic.

Resin  casts based on the forms of chromosomes and cells were inserted into the mosaic design  to reflect  the context of the  natural history   in the museum.

The casts  can be backlit  by the  audience by the touch of a switch next to the  mosaics.

Commissioned by Scarborough Borough Council.
