Geoffrey Giles Theatre waiting room, St James Hospital, Leeds

This is a wall mosaic and screen for the pre op waiting area to the theatres, to create a more distracting and calming environment for patients attending the theatres. Fish was chosen as the theme due to the popularity of the existing fish tank.

The six wall panels are made from glass tesserae with ceramic fish and break up the formality of the area with the assymetric shapes of the panels.

The partition screen creates a more private seated area at one end of the room.

It can be concertinered for storage if extra space is needed for the beds and is constructed in timber veneered panels and coloured polycarbonate.

The project was inspired by and managed by Sister Helen Ciantar, with funding from the Hospital Charitable Trust.
